Bi-Lo Adds Generic Form of Plavix to Rx Program

Bi-Lo customers can now get 30-day and 90-day prescriptions of clopidogrel, the generic form of the anticoagulant Plavix, for $4 and $10, respectively, when they use the grocer’s Pharmacy Discount Card. Bi-Lo’s prescription-savings program provides deep discounts on more than 350 generic medications and a range of savings on name-brand and other generic drugs.

“The generic form of Plavix … provides customers with initial savings over the brand equivalent,” said John Fegan, VP of pharmacy for Jacksonville, Fla.-based Bi-Lo Holding, which operates 687 Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. “This prescription is a highly requested medication from Bi-Lo customers, so we are especially pleased to offer an even deeper discount that allows them to focus on what is important -- their health.”

Bi-Lo's sister banner, Winn-Dixie, added clopidogrel to its roster of generic medications over the summer, while Meijer and Wegmans now offer the generic version of cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor.

The prescription program is available to all shoppers for an annual enrollment fee of $5. In addition to the prescription discounts noted above, enrolled customers receive such benefits as ongoing promotions and specials.

Plavix is usually prescribed to prevent heart attacks, strokes and other circulatory problems for people with atherosclerosis.
