Bi-Lo to Close 23 Underperforming Stores

Bi-Lo Holdings, the Jacksonville, Fla.-based parent company of the Bi-Lo, Harveys and Winn-Dixie supermarket banners, has decided to close 23 underperforming stores after a review of all 827 locations in its operating area.

The stores in question are located across six of the eight states in which Bi-Lo operates -- Ala., Fla., Ga., La., N.C. and S.C. -- and represent less than 3 percent of the grocer's total store base.

"While closing underperforming stores is never easy for any retailer, we look forward to opening more than 25 new and remodeled stores during the remainder of the fourth quarter of 2014," Julianne Roberts, the company's corporate communications specialist, told Progressive Grocer.

Roberts added that the stores are estimated to close by Nov. 19.

Bi-Lo Holdings acquired Winn-Dixie in March 2012, and later purchased the Harveys, Sweetbay and Reid’s chains from Delhaize Group.
