Bozzuto’s Aids Grocers’ Sandy Relief Efforts

Northeastern wholesaler Bozzuto’s Inc. has made a $100,000 donation to help the family-owned and -operated retailers it services provide assistance to local communities affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The money will go to buy gift cards from IGA Supermarkets, Belmont Market, Big Y, Dave’s Marketplace, and King Kullen, with the goal of getting storm victims food, medicine and supplies. The gift cards will be distributed by local food banks in hard-hit areas of Connecticut, New York’s Long Island and Rhode Island.

“Everyone has felt the immediate impact of this destructive storm,” said Michael Bozzuto, president and CEO of Cheshire, Conn.-based Bozzuto’s. “Our resolve to support these family-owned and -operated retailers is unwavering. They are the backbone of the communities they serve. It is our moral obligation to assist them with getting their businesses and customers back on their feet.”

Slamming into the East Coast at the end of October, Sandy brought with it major flooding, travel disruption, structural damage and power outages, claiming more than 100 lives.
