Brookshire’s Holiday Food Drive Helps the Needy

Brookshire Grocery Co.’s 32nd Annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive provided 20,000 boxes of food, 30,000 grab bags and raised $40,000 for families in need.

Approximately 150 Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and Fresh by Brookshire’s stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas collected donations of non-perishable food items, teaming up with a range of service organizations, food pantries and other volunteer groups to distribute food to families who were in need of assistance. The stores also sold scan coupons, applying those donations to purchase additional food for the drive.

“In the midst of our busiest season of the year, our store teams and customers assisted some 18,000 needy families … making Christmas brighter for many,” said BGC President and CEO Rick Rayford.

BGC’s first food drive took place in Tyler in 1982 with the Rose City Kiwanis Club. Nearly 100 families received assistance that year in the Tyler area. Last year, more than 500,000 pounds of food were collected and donated to more than 14,000 families in the Ark-La-Tex.
