Brookshire’s Shoppers Earn Mobile ‘Bling’

Regional independent Brookshire Grocery Co. is bringing “Bling” to its customers in Mt. Pleasant, Texas as with a pilot program in which customers will be able to securely tap-and-pay for their purchases and earn bank rewards, saving 5 percent with every transaction up to $100 with their BlingTags from Mt. Pleasant, Texas-based Bling Nation at both store locations operating under the banners of Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods.

“Bling Nation has had a large amount of community support and success in Mt. Pleasant, and now we can expand these capabilities to our customers,” said Tony Mize, store director of Brookshire’s #16 in Mt. Pleasant. “Through this introductory program, we are bringing the convenience of mobile payments for our busy customers to pay for groceries, while earning bank rewards with just one tap of their phone.”

Customers with a checking account at local community banks can sign up and activate a BlingTag -- a quarter-sized microchip sticker that adheres to the back of their mobile phone -- at any Brookshire’s store and at Bling Nation kiosks at select Brookshire’s locations in Mt. Pleasant. BlingTags do not store any personal information, and each time a payment is made using a BlingTag, the consumer receives a transaction confirmation and account balance by text message, and loyalty rewards points are automatically tracked.

Tyler, Texas-based Brookshire Grocery Co. operates 151 stores in three states — Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas — with three distribution centers and seven manufacturing facilities.
