Clinton ShopRite Helps Raise $1.25M to Feed Hungry

ShopRite associates raised an unprecedented $1.25 million for regional food banks in the markets it serves with its last ShopRite Partners In Caring contest sponsored by General Mills.

The two companies teamed up once again in recognition of National Hunger Awareness Month to raise help and hope for the hungry with a friendly competition. Showing their commitment to the fight against hunger through the collection of donations at checkout and in-store events, ShopRite associates met this annual challenge head-on, finding new and creative ways to raise funds for their neighbors in need. In addition, each winning store is awarded $500 (or $3,000 for top five stores) to donate to a hunger-fighting charity of its choice.

“We are grateful to our ShopRite associates for their dedication to help those who are hungry in their community,” said Christine Magyarits, spokesperson for ShopRite Partners In Caring. “These funds will go a long way toward alleviating hunger in communities served by ShopRite stores."

This year’s top-winning store is the ShopRite of Clinton, which selected Debby Glenn of Lopatcong, Joe Logan of Flemington and Donna Reed of Easton, Pa., to be featured on 125,000 special-edition Cheerios boxes for their store’s commitment. The box will be unveiled during a ceremony at the ShopRite of Clinton, Thursday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m. Scheduled to attend are Clinton Borough Mayor Janice Kovach; Councilwoman Megan Jones-Holt; Freeholder Matt Holt; Freeholder John King; Union Township Mayor Michele McBride; Franklin Township Mayor Bruce Pokowitz; and Joseph Colalillo, owner and operator of the ShopRites of Clinton, Greenwich Township and Flemington. The North Hunterdon Food Bank will also be present to accept the store’s donation of $3,000.
