Coborn’s Switches to Supervalu for Private Brands

Coborn’s Inc. is switching distribution channels for its private brand products from Kenosha, Wis.-based Affiliated Foods Midwest (AFM) to Supervalu.

The St. Cloud, Minn.-based regional retailer is also moving the products currently supplied by AFM for its four Marketplace Foods stores in Wisconsin to Supervalu.

The transition will begin on Feb. 15 and is expected to be fully implemented by May 1.

Coborn’s will continue to be a member-owner of Elk Grove Village, Ill.-based Topco Associates and will continue to utilize Topco for all Coborn’s own brands, including Food Club, Top Care, Valu Time, Full Circle Market, Sweet P’s Bake Shop, @ease and Buckley Farms. Coborn’s has been a Topco member-owner since 2002.

The employee-owned Coborn’s operates 54 supermarkets across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin under the Coborn’s, Cash Wise Foods and Save-A-Lot banners. It also owns CobornsDelivers, an online grocery ordering and home delivery service, along with stand-alone convenience, liquor, video and pharmacy locations.

To support its 120 retail locations, Coborn’s operates its own central bakery, dry cleaning facility and grocery distribution center.
