Dan Valenzuela to Lead Safeway Eastern Division

Albertsons Cos. has named Dan Valenzuela the president of Safeway’s Eastern Division to succeed Steve Burnham.

President of Safeway’s Seattle division since 2014, the year Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons acquired Safeway, Valenzuela previously led Safeway's Phoenix Division, where he had earlier held the role of VP of operations. Valenzuela joined Safeway in 1977 as a courtesy clerk, rising to become a store manager in 1981 and a district manager a decade later.

Although it had been reported elsewhere that Burnham had left Safeway, along with Dean Willhite, the Eastern Division’s former VP of operations, a Safeway representative told the Washington Business Journal that neither had left the company, but were considering other roles within Safeway.
