    Delhaize America Restructures Senior Management Teams

    Delhaize America, parent of Food Lion and Hannaford, has cut its executive ranks by 25 percent to 50 company officers nationally as part of “efforts to reduce general and administrative costs and better serve customers,” according to the company.

    The reorganization, which now places roughly 80 percent of its senior leaders in Food Lion’s Salisbury, N.C., headquarters, creates some new roles and eliminates others throughout the Delhaize America group, which operates more than 1,500 stores along the East Coast, including Hannaford Supermarkets, Food Lion, Bottom Dollar, Harveys, Reid’s and Sweetbay.

    The sweeping restructuring plans were detailed in a memo sent to employees by Roland Smith, who was named CEO of Delhaize America last year in tandem with the first round of management shakeups.

    According to the memo issued by Smith last week, the latest moves were triggered by deficiencies with budgetary targets that were established last summer. “Developing the new officer structure required a great number of difficult decisions that led to the departure of many longtime, well-respected leaders,” said Smith, while describing the evolving Delhaize America Leadership Team (DALT).

    The following officers, according to the memo, “were carefully selected for their roles, whether the position is new or represents continuity:”
