Denver Albertsons to Become Safeways

All nine Albertsons stores in the Denver metropolitan area will rebrand under the Safeway banner, with the transition completing by mid-October.

Safeway and Albertsons parent Albertsons Companies Inc., based in Boise, Idaho, is rebranding the stores because the Denver metro has 46 Safeway stores but only a handful of Albertsons stores, The Denver Post reported. Stores being rebranded include two each in Aurora and Denver, and one each in Centennial, Louisville, Littleton, Northglenn and Thornton.

While store names will change, the same teams operating the stores and operations such as the stores’ fried chicken, fresh-cut fruit and Choice Beef programs will remain. New offerings will be added, however, including an expanded assortment of organic, natural and local products.

In total, Albertsons will operate 104 Safeway stores and 10 Albertsons stores in Colorado. Any future branding changes will be made on a market-by-market basis.
