Fairway Debuts Upper East Side Store

Long known and loved in the Big Apple for its broad selection of gourmet offerings, Fairway Market opened its latest location July 20 on the Upper East Side, across Central Park from its flagship original store on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The new locations, Fairway’s third in the New York City borough, measures 26,000 square feet

Among the items on offer are daily-delivered produce direct from the source; a large assortment of specialty and imported products; artisanal oils and vinegars including Fairway’s own exclusive imported barrel olive oils, a full line of natural and organic produce, foods, and health and beauty aids; kosher foods; more than 600 artisanal cheeses; authentic New York deli and appetizers; Fairway’s hand-rolled bagels; the grocer’s imported premises-roasted coffee beans; f5resh seafood; and custom-cut USDA Prime meats from the in-house Butcher Shop.

Coming soon to the store is Fairway’s first-ever “Fairway to Go” section, which will enable time-pressed shoppers to grab chef-prepared foods, Fairway’s coffee, sandwiches, pastries, cappuccino and espresso on the run.

The location is also offering the chain’s “Store-to-Door” delivery service at special grand-opening delivery rates: $4.95 within 81st St. to 91st St. and Park Ave. to East End Ave., $5.95 for all other locations within Manhattan. Delivery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

By the end of 2011, New York-based Fairway plans to have grown to nine stores, with its number of associates approaching 4,000. Besides the three Manhattan locations, the chain currently operates markets in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook; the Long Island, N.Y., town of Plainview; Pelham Manor in upstate New York; Stamford, Conn.; and Paramus, N.J. As for future sites, the grocer teasingly hinted on its website where it might look next as it welcomed Upper East Siders to its new store: “You know that all of the down-towners are extremely jealous of you. We hope to get to them one day, too.”
