Food Circus Helps Troops

This month, Food Circus Super Markets Inc. is aiding local military organizations in New Jersey’s Monmouth and Ocean counties as a way to support U.S. troops and their families.

Customers at the 10 Super Foodtowns owned and operated by the Azzolina and Scaduto families can help out by donating a $1 at checkout.

“With the anniversary death of the late Joseph Azzolina approaching, we feel strongly in giving back to the military, which he served for so many years” explained Lou Scaduto Jr., president of Middletown, N.J.-based Food Circus Super Markets. The $1 icons honor the memory of Azzolina, the company’s former president as well as a onetime New Jersey legislator and state senator, with the USS New Jersey, a WWII-era battleship, depicted on the donation card.

Proceeds raised during April will go to 10 local VFW organizations in the communities surrounding the Foodtown stores, to help care for soldiers and their dependents.

Customer response to date has been heartening. “We are proud to report that over $13,800 has been collected so far” noted Food Circus VP Joe Azzolina Jr.
