Food Lion to Kick Off Latest Store Remodels in Raleigh, N.C.

Food Lion will remodel its Raleigh, N.C.-area stores as part of the latest phase of its "Easy Fresh and Affordable. You Can Count on Food Lion Every Day!" strategy, aimed at improving the shopping experience,

Frans Muller, CEO of Food Lion's parent company, Brussels-based Delhaize Group, revealed during the retail conglomerate's fourth-quarter financial report that the strategy would expand to another 160 stores in 2015.

"We've heard from our customers that they're seeking an easy, quick, convenient shopping experience, with quality, fresh products and the low prices they’ve come to expect from Food Lion," said Meg Ham, president of Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion. "Through the remodels, this is exactly what Food Lion will deliver."

Since introducing Easy, Fresh and Affordable in May 2014, the grocer has brought to its Raleigh-area stores such enhancements as a product assortment selected according to customer preferences, and register systems that speed checkout, while providing more savings throughout the store. Additionally, Food Lion's approximately 6,000 associates in the region have received customer-centric training to better serve shoppers.

"We'll continue to listen to our customers and learn from their feedback," added Ham.

The store remodels will take place on a rolling schedule between April and October. Meanwhile, Food Lion will continue to add improvements at all of its stores in 2015, as well as undertaking future renovations in its other markets.

Raleigh will be the third of Food Lion's markets to receive the store makeovers; 76 stores in the greater Wilmington, N.C., and Greenville, N.C., areas were overhauled last year.

A company of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Delhaize Group, Food Lion has more than 1,100 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, and employs 63,000-plus associates.
