Food Lion Raises $314K-plus for Military Families

Food Lion shoppers have raised more than $314,000 to aid wounded U.S. service members and their families through Hope For The Warriors.

“We are so thankful to Food Lion for their continued support of our military families and our organization,” said Robin Kelleher, president of Hope For The Warriors. “I personally visited many of the stores during the month of August, and I was blown away with the enthusiasm and dedication of each staff member and customer.”

To raise funds, Food Lion sponsored several community events and at-register campaigns in select North Carolina and Virginia stores during August. The money will go to provide a full range of care to service members, veterans and military families. Hope For The Warriors programs focus on Employment & Education, Clinical Support Services, Sports & Recreations, and Community & Military Relations.

In 2012, Food Lion’s “Thriller on the Griller” fundraising events raised more than $94,000 for the Annandale, Va.-based nonprofit organization.

Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion, a company of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, operates more than 1,100 supermarkets, and employs about 57,000 associates in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.
