Giant-Carlisle to Acquire 2 Genuardi's Stores

Giant Food Stores LLC has entered into a sales agreement with Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway Inc. to buy two Genuardi’s locations in Pennsylvania’s Bucks County. The stores are located in the towns of Feasterville and Warrington.

Both stores will close on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. to be renovated and converted to the Giant banner, and are scheduled to reopen during the first quarter of 2011. Current store employees will be able to transfer to other Genuardi’s locations or to interview for a job at Giant.

“Giant is always looking for opportunities and convenient locations to better serve our customers,” noted president Rick Herring of the acquisition.

Employing nearly 30,000 associates, Giant, a Carlisle, Pa.-based division of Ahold USA, operates 180 stores in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia under the names of Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets banners, including 35 stores in the greater Philadelphia region.
