Giant-Carlisle Launches ‘Pick Up’ Service at 4 Pa. Stores

Giant Food Stores has rolled out its “Giant Pick Up” service to four Pennsylvania stores in partnership with e-grocer and sister company Peapod. Shoppers at the Ahold USA-owned chain’s Camp Hill, Harrisburg, Montgomeryville and Willow Grove locations can now order their groceries online for pickup. The service replaces “Shop from Home,” which was previously available to Willow Grove and Camp Hill customers.

“Our customers are busier than ever, and we want to provide them with a better place to shop by giving them options to shop that is most convenient to their lifestyle,” noted Jeff Beaulieu, VP, sales and merchandising at Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant/Martin’s. “Giant Pick Up is a flexible and affordable alternative for customers to quickly pick up their groceries in the midst of other errands.”

To use the service, shoppers visit the Peapod site or the Peapod smartphone app and enter their ZIP codes. Once there, they can place items in their carts, choose a payment method and then select a one-hour pickup time any day of the week. There’s no fee for the service, and no minimum purchase required. Manufacturer coupons are accepted and doubled, with customers prompted to enter them at the time of payment. When a customer comes to pick up her groceries, an associate will be on hand to load the bags directly into her car.

Additionally, shoppers can create personal lists, read nutritional information online, quickly sort items by price or nutritional content, and avail themselves of thousands of weekly specials. Giant customers are even able to shop from a list of items they’ve already bought at local stores by entering their Giant BonusCard numbers online. They can also earn Gas Extra Rewards and A+ School Rewards on their pickup orders.

Giant/Martin’s operates almost 200 grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets banners, employing more than 31,000 associates.

Skokie, Ill.-based Peapod serves 24 U.S. markets in communities in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The e-grocer has made more than 26 million deliveries since it began in the late 1980s.
