Giant Eagle Offers Needle-free Flu Shots

With cold and flu season upon us once again, Giant Eagle is making it easier for folks to receive an annual flu shot by offering both traditional and needle-free injection options.

Unlike traditional needle injection, the needle-free shot works on a spring power that allows a direct pressurized stream of liquid medication to penetrate the skin in less than one third of a second.

Those who struggle with needle anxiety can talk to a Giant Eagle pharmacist for more information about the needle-free injection option offered by the Pennsylvania-based retailer. Walks-ins and appointments are accepted.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends receiving a yearly flu vaccination as the best method of prevention against this illness. While there are many different flu viruses, the 2011-12 vaccine is designed to protect against three main flu strains that research indicates are likely to cause the most illness: H3N2, influenza B and H1N1.

Giant Eagle will offer flu vaccinations ($25) and pneumonia shots ($60) administered by Giant Eagle pharmacists to those 18 years of age and older. All vaccinations are available on a walk-in basis. For more information, visit www.gianteagle.com/pharmacy/immunization.
