Giant, Instacart Team on Philly-area Delivery

Days after forging a partnership with Wegmans, San Francisco-based Instacart, in its bid to expand to more markets, has joined forces with Giant Food Stores LLC to bring same-day grocery delivery to the Ahold Delhaize banner’s Philadelphia-area customers.

“This partnership with Instacart gives our customers in the greater Philadelphia area another convenient delivery option,” said Tom Lenkevich, president of Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant/Martin’s. “From quality to convenience, our job is to provide the best possible experience for our shoppers, and now that includes providing them with a same-day delivery solution.”

“Instacart has always been about bringing customers’ favorite stores, groceries and essentials directly to their doorsteps,” noted Instacart Chief Business Officer Nilam Ganenthiran. “Giant is loved by its customers, and we believe Philadelphia residents will enjoy the added convenience, not to mention having one less errand to run.”

Giant customers can use Instacart’s website or app to fill virtual carts with products from the chain’s stores and select a delivery window ranging from within an hour to seven days in advance.

Instacart has set a goal of being able to deliver groceries to 80 percent of U.S. households by next year, and plans to expand its geographic footprint to 60 or more markets in 2017.

Giant/Martin’s operates almost 200 grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets banner, employing more than 33,000 associates.
