Golub Corp. Opens 4 More Market 32 Stores

The Golub Corp. has opened more four locations of its contemporary food-focused concept, Market 32, in converted Price Chopper Supermarkets in the Capital Region of upstate New York. Guilderland and Troy each got a store, while Albany got two. Only the Guilderland location closed for 12 weeks during its renovation.

The first locations to open under the banner were in Wilton and Clifton Park, N.Y., and Pittsfield and Sutton, Mass. (the first-ever ground-up Market 32 store), in the summer and fall of 2015.

Featuring open space; soft earth tones; and  product-focused displays, murals and lighting, Market 32 stores highlight convenient, ready-to-eat foods; fresh, handcrafted, and locally grown, produced and manufactured items; and intuitive product/department adjacencies such as greeting cards alongside the floral department.

Northeastern shoppers can expect more stores under the new banner in the near future. The Torrington, Conn., Price Chopper is next in line to be converted to a Market 32 store, with the project expected to be completed by mid-May, while the Glenville, N.Y., location is prepping for its own revamp to the banner. Stores in East Greenbush and Brunswick, N.Y., are now in the design phase, and a ground-up Market 32, is scheduled to open this summer in Oxford, Conn. Additionally, a groundbreaking for a Market 32 in Ft. Edward, N.Y., will take place in the next few weeks.

Schenectady, N.Y.-based Golub owns and operates 135 Price Chopper and Market 32 grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Golub’s 21,000 associates collectively own more than 47 percent of the company’s privately held stock, making it one of the nation’s largest privately held corporations that’s predominantly employee-owned.
