Gordy’s Market Kicks Off 50th Anniversary Celebration

Third-generation, family-owned Gordy’s Market kicked off its year-long 50th anniversary celebration on April 16. Gordy Schafer bought his first supermarket in 1966 in Chippewa Falls, Wis. Today, the company has grown to 25 locations throughout Wisconsin.

All locations handed out $0.50 gas rewards Golden Tickets to the first 50 customers on April 16 and unveiled 50th anniversary storefront banners, in-store danglers and employee t-shirts. Gordy’s Market West in Eau Claire also hosted a cheese carver who created a 50th anniversary bag out of 40 pounds of locally made La Grander’s cheese. Beginning April 23, all stores will hand out coupons for Gordy’s Market and Our Family products. The “Just a Kid” video campaign also was unveiled on gordys.com/about as well as a 30-second spot that ran on a local television station.

Every Saturday from April 16-June 4, Gordy’s has partnered with Leinenkugel’s, another Chippewa Falls-based business, to donate $0.25 from every Leinenkugel’s case of beer purchased to WI River Alliance to support the lakes in the area. For the first two Saturdays of the anniversary event, Gordy’s also is hosting grill-outs in front of the stores with proceeds benefitting local nonprofits.
