Goya Helps the Hungry

Goya Foods, the largest Hispanic-owned U.S. food company, will donate 10,000 pounds of healthy and low-sodium food items, in the name of Dominican Latin music star Juan Luis Guerra, to New York-based anti-hunger organization City Harvest. The presentation will take place on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Bronx Spanish Evangelical Church’s Give Them to Eat Food Pantry.

The donation aims to encourage health and wellness in all communities and to raise awareness of MyPlate ("MiPlato" in Spanish) a nationwide campaign led by Secaucus, N.J.-based Goya and the “Let’s Move!” initiative spearheaded by First Lady Michelle Obama.

MyPlate is the USDA’s latest educational tool to help families make more nutritious meal choices and proper portions. At the Feb. 28 donation event, Goya and City Harvest will distribute fresh produce and Goya products, six Latin recipes for healthy meals and Michelle Obama’s 10 tips on how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Goya plans to donate a total of 20,000 pounds to City Harvest and to the Corpus Christi Assistance Center in Miami, both on behalf of Guerra, who is scheduled to perform at the Goya Concert Series at Radio City in New York on March 10 and at the American Airlines Arena in Miami on March 17.
