H-E-B Offers Helping Hand to Firefighters

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, more than 3,400 H-E-B employees from 310 stores across Texas will visit their local fire stations on Friday as part of the company-wide volunteer service project, Helping Heroes.

Throughout Texas, H-E-B will “adopt” 525 fire stations, providing volunteers to serve meals to firefighters and help out around the station.

In its seventh year, the Helping Heroes program allows H-E-B employees – known as partners – to celebrate and honor local fire departments and commemorate the heroism of civil servants throughout the state. This community project honors Sept. 11 as a national day of service and remembrance that pays tribute to the men and women rescue teams who risked and lost their lives following the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

“Each year, we look forward to honoring our community’s first responders and local firefighters through the Helping Heroes program,” said Winell Herron, H-E-B group VP of public affairs, diversity and environmental affairs. “Our goal is to show appreciation for our heroes’ dedication and selfless service to our community on a daily basis. Whether we are preparing a hot meal or helping do chores around-the-station, we strive to honor some of the bravest members of our community.”

H-E-B volunteers across Texas will perform service and maintenance projects such as yard work, station cleaning, painting and equipment cleaning.

With sales of more than $16 billion, San Antonio-based H-E-B operates more than 330 stores in Texas and Mexico.
