Harris Teeter, Shipt Partner to Deliver Alcohol

Harris Teeter and Shipt will begin offering beer and wine delivery this week to homes throughout the Charlotte, N.C., metropolitan area, according to a published report.

Shipt, with offices in Birmingham, Ala., and San Francisco, launched its delivery service at Harris Teeter last month, but until now the service only covered groceries, according to the Charlotte Observer. In fact, Charlotte will be the first market in which Shipt will deliver groceries and alcohol from one retailer, the newspaper reported. To order alcohol, customers will have to scan their IDs through the app and will need to show the same ID to the Shipt delivery person to receive their deliveries.

With the addition of alcohol deliveries, Shipt will require its employees to undergo further training on its delivery policies and procedures. The company told the Observer that there are as yet no plans to extend the alcohol deliveries to any other retailer with which it has a partnership.

A Shipt membership is $99 a year, including unlimited grocery and alcohol deliveries.

Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., operates more than 230 stores and five fuel centers in seven southeastern states and the District of Columbia.
