Harris Teeter, Shipt Team to Deliver Groceries in Charlotte

Harris Teeter has joined forces with Shipt, an app-based grocery delivery service currently serving 30 major metropolitan areas across the country, to offer grocery deliveries from Harris Teeter in the Charlotte, N.C., metro area. The partnership between the two companies began last year when the supermarket launched grocery delivery in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina.

“With Shipt, Harris Teeter is able to expand its delivery options beyond its current ExpressLane delivery,” noted Danna Robinson, communication manager for Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kroger. “Shoppers now have a choice in how they get their groceries delivered to their doorstep.”

“One thing is very clear in the Charlotte region – people love Harris Teeter,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt, which has offices in Birmingham, Ala., and San Francisco. “By providing great groceries and focusing on customer satisfaction, Harris Teeter has established itself as one of the most well-respected brands in the region.”

Added Smith: “We are ready to bring the convenience of grocery delivery to more people, while also further investing in community initiatives focused on families and addressing hunger relief.” Locally, the company has worked with the Cam Newton Foundation, and will continue to identify opportunities to work with Harris Teeter’s community initiatives, as well as teaming with area anti-hunger organizations.

Through Shipt’s mobile or desktop app, members can browse a full selection of grocery items available at Harris Teeter and select a one-hour delivery window. A Shipt Shopper visits the local store to hand pick and deliver the items to the member as soon as one hour after the order. For $99 annually, Shipt members get unlimited grocery deliveries on all orders over $35.

To celebrate its partnership with Harris Teeter, Shipt is offering $25 in free groceries to annual members who sign up before the launch of Shipt in their area. Ahead of the Charlotte launch, Shipt will increase its existing network of shoppers and recruit more to shop and deliver orders to members.

Grocery delivery will be available from more than 50 Harris Teeter locations in the Charlotte market. Shipt’s Charlotte coverage encompasses the greater Charlotte metro area and the surrounding communities of Concord, Mooresville, Cornelius, Mint Hill, Waxhaw, Lake Wylie, Stanley, Denver, Huntersville, Indian Trail, Matthews, and Weddington, in addition to Fort Mill and Rock Hill, S.C.

Harris Teeter employs about 30,000 associates and operates stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia.
