Inserra Supermarkets Names Ron Onorato President/COO

Inserra Supermarkets, a family-owned chain of ShopRite supermarkets, has named Ron Onorato its new president and COO. Onorato succeeds Steve Chalas who is retiring after a career spanning more than 50 years.

"Steve has a long history with our family, having worked side by side with my father in the earliest days to build Inserra Supermarkets into the company it is today," noted Lawrence Inserra Jr., the chain's chairman and CEO.

Bringing more than 35 years of experience to his new role, Onorato was previously SVP of operational initiatives at Ahold USA and president of the company's Stop & Shop New York metro division.

"Ron has an exceptional track record for operational expertise within the large-format supermarket sector and is known throughout the industry for his integrity and passion for his work," said Inserra. "We have no doubt he is the ideal leader to take our company into this next phase of development."

A member of the Wakefern Food Corp. retailer cooperative, Mahwah, N.J.-based Inserra Supermarkets owns and operates 21 ShopRite supermarkets and one PriceRite store in New Jersey and New York, employing 4,000 associates.
