Jewel-Osco Embraces Hispanic Heritage Month

Jewel-Osco is back for the seventh year in a row with its “Sabor de la Herencia Hispana,” a series that celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and gives back to the Chicago area's Hispanic community.

Customers and the community will have an opportunity to experience Hispanic Heritage Month events featuring more than 20 vendors, prizes, fresh in-store recipes, cooking demonstrations, Spanish-language radio remotes and live mariachi performances. The signature VIP in-store reception is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2 at Jewel's store at 2520 N. Narragansett Ave., Chicago.

Celebrating Culture and Tradition

Jewel-Osco is proud to recognize and honor the significance of Hispanic and Latino Americans living in the United States, particularly in the Chicagoland area. This festive month acknowledges all of the wonderful traditions of Hispanic culture, from authentic cuisine to achievements by Hispanics in the United States throughout history,” said Jim Seidler, Jewel's ethnic and specialty foods buyer.  “Jewel-Osco embraces these traditions year-round, but especially so during Hispanic Heritage Month.”

Jewel-Osco’s 2014 Hispanic Heritage Month events also include cooking demos by chef Rafael Perez, assistant professor and culinary program faculty coordinator at St. Augustine College. Perez, of Puerto Rican descent, will be preparing Latin-fusion recipes for shoppers to watch, learn and taste, including braised beef tacos infused with Coke de México.

Along with the signature in-store reception, additional events are planned throughout the month at other Jewel supermarkets in Chicago.

Established in 1899, Jewel-Osco, owned by New Albertsons Inc., operates 185 locations in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.
