Jewel-Osco Hosts Hostess’ Last Stand

Jewel-Osco gave Twinkie lovers a chance to get one final taste of the iconic Hostess Brands treat this week.

The Chicago-area retailer received what is believed to be the final shipment of Twinkies in the country. More than 20,000 boxes of Twinkies were available starting Tuesday morning at select Jewel-Osco stores, along with Ding Dongs, Zingers and Orange Cupcakes. The Hostess products will be sold at regular price, while supplies last, with no customer limit.

The financially troubled Hostess Brands recently ceased operations amid labor troubles and its assets are currently being eyed by several prospective buyers.

Jewel-Osco, a Supervalu company, operates 179 stores in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana.
