Just Bare Launches 'Just 5' Cooking Challenge

In keeping with the brand’s “less is more” philosophy, Just Bare Chicken will launch its second annual Just 5 Cooking Challenge for a chance to win $500, a feature in the March issue of Whole Living magazine, and inclusion in Just Bare's first-ever digital cookbook.

The contest encourages home cooks to submit a recipe on the brand’s website using chicken and no more than four additional ingredients (salt, pepper, and a fat source (s) do not count against the total). The contest’s second phase invites consumers to vote for their favorite finalist Just 5 recipe on Facebook; all voters will be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win an iPad loaded with the top 20 finalist recipes and additional culinary content.

The Just 5 contest schedule is as follows:

  • Recipe Entry Phase: Aug. 28 – Oct. 9
  • Online Voting & Sweeps Phase: Nov. 5 – Dec. 5

“Cooking with a ‘less is more’ philosophy is about more than a recipe with just five ingredients. It combines creative and convenient high-quality products, minimal use of appliances and simple tricks and steps to save time,” said Julie Berling, director of brand advocacy for Just Bare, a brand of St. Cloud, Minn.-based GNP Co. “It’s about stripping down the cooking process to simplify our lives, so we can concentrate on what’s important – natural, wholesome food.”

A panel of culinary experts - including Just Bare head culinary enthusiast Lisa Golden Schroeder - will screen each submission based on the contents of the written recipe, including its creativity, general appeal, apparent ease of preparation, number of and use of ingredients, and clarity of instructions. The panel will then kitchen-test 30 semi-finalist recipes and give each one a score on a 1-20 point scale for appearance, taste, and overall ease of preparation. The 20 recipes with the highest scores will advance to online voting on Just Bare’s Facebook page. Determined by voters, the grand-prize winner will be announced around Dec. 5.

Just Bare delivers all-natural, American Humane Certified chicken that offers no antibiotics, no added hormones, and no animal byproducts.
