Kroger Introduces Red Prince Apples

The Kroger Co. has scheduled special events Saturday at six of its Detroit-area supermarkets to celebrate the debut of Red Prince apples in the Cincinnati-based grocer’s 35 metro Detroit stores.

Red Prince is a premium apple variety brought to Kroger stores by the variety’s exclusive U.S. distributor, Riveridge Produce Marketing Inc.

Available from February to April at Kroger stores, the Red Prince apple is a full-flavored fruit with a mildly sweet taste, suggested as ideal for snacking, salads and baking. Its flavor peaks during the winter season. “Riveridge is honored to be partnering with Kroger stores to introduce this one-of-a-kind apple experience to the Detroit community,” said Don Armock, Riveridge president.

The community is invited to the public events for free samples of the Red Prince apple and an opportunity to meet the “Prince” – a medieval-themed character representing the brand. At the Birmingham and Coolidge Highway/Troy stores, patrons can meet and greet the grower family responsible for pioneering this fruit in North America. Events also are scheduled for the South Boulevard/Troy, Northville and Plymouth stores.

Riveridge Produce Marketing Inc. is a Sparta, Mich.-based company representing produce growers throughout Michigan and North America, including fourth-, fifth- and sixth-generation apple farmers.
