Kroger Southwest Banners Ratify Union Agreements

Associates working at Fry's Food Stores and Smith's Food and Drug in Arizona and New Mexico have ratified new labor agreements with their respective union locals.

The contracts between the banners, owned by The Kroger Co., with United Food and Commercial Workers Local 99 cover about 14,500 associates working in 120 stores throughout Arizona and Smith's associates working in Kingman, Bullhead City, Fort Mohave and Lake Havasu.

"Fry's is pleased to reach an agreement that is good for our associates. The agreement offers our associates a competitive compensation package," said Steve McKinney, Fry's president.  "This agreement comes after thoughtful and productive work by company and union representatives. I want to thank our associates for supporting the agreement and for the excellent service they provide to our customers every day."

Pay Increases, Health Care and Pension

Additionally, Smith's Division associates working at stores in New Mexico have ratified a new labor agreement with UFCW Local 1564.

"This agreement provides wage increases, affordable health care and invests in our associates' pension fund to support their retirement," said Jay Cummins, Smith's president.

This contract covers 2,200 associates working in 25 stores in New Mexico.

Cincinnati-based Kroger employs more than 375,000 associates at 2,638 supermarkets and multidepartment stores in 34 states and the District of Columbia under two dozen local banner names, including Kroger, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Harris Teeter, Jay C, King Soopers, QFC, Ralphs and Smith's.
