Lidl Issues Grand-Opening Specials

In advance of its June 15 U.S. debut of 10 stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, Lidl has released a circular featuring deals for what the hard-discount grocer has dubbed “Grand Opening Weekend,” with games, activities and prizes also on the agenda.

Deals include Lidl’s Allini Prosecco, recently named Sparkling Wine of the Year at the 2017 INDY International Wine Competition, for $8.99; the grocer’s award-winning sweet red wine for $2.89; freshly baked butter croissants for 39 cents; Fair Trade assorted chocolate bars for 79 cents; Black Angus all-American beef patties for $3.49 a pound; fresh, never frozen, all-American pork tenderloin for $2.49 a pound; fresh pineapples for 89 cents; tropical mangos for 39 cents; and natural vanilla ice cream for $1.99 per tub.

Along with the grand opening of its first 10 U.S. stores, Lidl will launch its food theme weeks with the Italiamo line, consisting of authentic specialty items the grocer has brought straight from Italy, including 99 cent extra-long 19-inch spaghetti, with deals available only while stocks last.

According to the grocer, its customers can expect to purchase top-quality goods and groceries at up to 50 percent less than at other U.S. supermarkets.

Additionally, the first 100 customers to arrive at each location opening June 15 will receive a wooden coin for a chance to win up to $100 in Lidl gift cards. Shoppers will also be able sample an assortment of Lidl’s products and get a free reusable bag, while supplies last.

The stores opening this week are Kinston, Greenville, Sanford, Rocky Mount, Wilson and Winston-Salem, N.C.; Spartanburg and Greenville, S.C., and Virginia Beach and Hampton, Va.

Operating more than 10,000 stores throughout Europe, German retailer Lidl has its U.S. headquarters in Arlington County, Va., with regional headquarters and distribution centers in Spotsylvania County, Va.; Alamance County, N.C.; and Cecil County, Md.
