Martin's to Launch New Express Format in Indiana

South Bend, Ind.-based Martin's Super Markets plans to launch the chain's first new format store next spring, with the opening of Martin's Express, aimed at better serving the diverse needs of Midwestern shoppers.

Martin's Express, to be the grocer's 22nd store, is slated to open in Goshen, Ind., at the site of a Save-A-Lot store that's closing at the end of this week. Martin's Super Markets has operated the Save-A-Lot franchise at that location since December 2007.

The new store is expected to open in spring 2015.

"We’re excited to be able to bring this fresh, new concept store to the south side of Goshen," said Amy Simeri-McClellan, Martin's marketing director. "The word ‘Express’ as part of the name means we’ll be offering many of the favorite services Martin’s offers, but in a smaller, easy-to-shop, 26,000-square-foot format, which will be about 40 percent larger than the previous Save-A-Lot store."

Company officials say Martin’s Express will feature all Martin’s regular weekly ad specials, along with a Side Door Deli Café, Starbucks Coffee kiosk, Famous Salad Bar, full-service butcher and seafood shops, hot deli foods, panini and sub sandwiches, and beer and wine. Dairy, frozen, grocery, and health and beauty departments will offer a comprehensive range of popular selections.

"It’s our privilege to be able to offer the community of Goshen another Martin’s store conveniently located on the south side," said Rob Bartels, president and CEO of Martin's. "Goshen is a vibrant, active city with a thriving present and an even greater future, and we’re proud to contribute to that growth."

Founded in 1947, Martin’s Super Markets currently operates 21 stores in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Nappanee, Logansport and Warsaw, Ind., and Niles, Stevensville and St. Joseph, Mich.
