Meijer Opening 2 Indianapolis-area Supercenters

Meijer will open two new supercenters in McCordsville and Franklin, Ind., on May 2, according to Maureen Mitchell, the company’s regional VP. The supercenters, both in the Indianapolis area, are two of seven new stores the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company plans to open in Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin in 2017.

“Indianapolis is very important for us, and our new stores reinforce our commitment to serving the needs of families with an incredible combination of service, selection and quality at low prices,” said Mitchell, noting that Meijer officials and area dignitaries will mark the stores’ first day of business with ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

Meijer has made significant investments in the Indianapolis market over the past few years. Of its 15 stores in the region, most are new or have been remodeled within the past few years, including a project at the Meijer Supercenter on East 96th Street in Indianapolis, which is slated to wrap up by summer's end. Meijer remodels have led to enhanced store layouts and larger grocery and health and beauty sections, in addition to upgrades in lighting, heating, refrigeration and parking lot improvements.

While weekly Meijer sales at the two new supercenters begin when doors open at 7 a.m. on May 2, the locations will also offer special promotions and events to commemorate their grand openings, beginning May 4. The stores’ Meijer gas stations will officially open April 6.

“These new stores and remodels in Indiana represent a continued investment in our customers, team members and the local communities that have supported us for so long,” observed Mitchell.

Full- and part-time job openings are still available at both stores, and the company is directing interested candidates to apply for positions online.

Privately owned Meijer operates more than 230 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
