New Book Chronicles Market Basket Saga

A new book chronicling the story of Market Basket – the New England grocery chain that made headlines in the summer of 2014 when the long-time CEO was ousted and the entire company protested across towns in Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire – has been released.

"We Are Market Basket: The Story Of The Unlikely Grassroots Movement That Saved a Beloved Business" was written by Professor Daniel Korshun – an assistant professor of marketing at Philadelphia's Drexel University's LeBow College of Business and a fellow at the Center for Corporate Reputation Management – and Grant Welker – a Boston-based journalist who covered the Market Basket story from the start as a reporter for the Lowell Sun.

Welker and Korshun joined forces "to share the story of a business that was saved by the loyalty of employees, vendors, and customers. Set against a backdrop of bad blood and corporate greed, 'We Are Market Basket' chronicles the epic rise, fall, and redemption of this iconic and uniquely American company."

With firsthand accounts from the front lines and executive suites, the book takes a look at what provoked such ferocious loyalty to Market Basket and its long-time CEO Arthur T. Demoulas, who was ousted by his cousin Arthur S. Demoulas; how a company that's spread across three states maintains a culture that embraces everyone – from cashier to customer – as family; and how a company becomes an industry leader by prioritizing stakeholders over shareholders.
