Oreo Celebrates 100 Years

In honor of Oreo’s 100th birthday celebration, 25 special guests from eight countries gathered in New York City yesterday to be inducted as the brand’s new ambassadors. Honorees from the U.S., China, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Puerto Rico took the official “Oreo Oath” and vowed to fulfill the role of “AmbassadOREO” by living out the brand’s mission – to “just be kids” – upon their return home.

"Bringing our biggest fans together from around the world is just the twist that this global cookie needs," said Sheeba Philip, director for Oreo Global. "These AmbassadOREO honorees spread childlike delight in their communities with every Twist, Lick and Dunk.”

The celebration took place at the Buddakan Restaurant in Manhattan, where Oreo employees served guests lunch followed by one-of-a-kind desserts such as Oreo Almond Banana Bread Pudding, Oreo Chinese Drop cookies, Oreo Custard Balls, Oreo Martinis, and Oreo cookies of different flavors including Green Tea, Coconut and Berry Burst Ice Cream. Participants were able to vote for their favorite one.

"No matter how the mission comes to life in each culture, we hope every AmbassadOREO will continue to celebrate the kid inside and share with us through the Oreo Facebook page and online how they are helping others do the same," added Philip.

The Oreo honorees put their mission into immediate action by hosting a surprise cookie and milk break for unsuspecting New Yorkers in the city's Financial District near Broadway and Wall Street.

Oreo distributes to more than 100 countries around the world, and was named one of Kraft Foods’ 12 “billion-dollar” brands with more than $2 billion in global annual revenues.
