Piggly Wiggly Carolina Grows Online Grocery Service

After offering online shopping in 10 stores for the past four years, Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. has expanded its “Click’n Shop” program to 26 more locations, for a total of 36 stores. Developed by Colchester, Vt.-based MyWebGrocer (MWG), the program features an eCommerce platform, digital circulars and an online advertising platform. The expansion nearly triples Piggly Wiggly’s eCommerce presence in South Carolina.

Using the online shopping solution, Piggly Wiggly Carolina shoppers can buy groceries online and opt to pick up their purchases at the store or have them delivered. Shoppers can also access online circulars to view weekly sale items and then add them to their carts.

“It’s always been a priority of Piggly Wiggly to offer customers new ways to save money and time during their shopping experience,” noted Robert Masche, chief supply chain officer at Charleston, S.C.-based Piggly Wiggly Carolina. “This drove our initial decision to add online shopping to 10 of our stores. The program has been profitable and a proven way to acquire and retain our customers. It only makes sense for us to expand this to new markets. We believe our online grocery channel will continue to grow as word of its quality and convenience spreads.”

Added MWG EVP Curt Alpeter: “Piggly Wiggly saw an increase in traffic and basket size when they initially added eCommerce. We’re confident they will continue to see a sales lift with the addition of Click’n Shop to 26 more locations.”

Piggly Wiggly Carolina one of more than 114 grocery retailers and 90-plus consumer packaged goods brands that use MWG services.
