Price Chopper Raises $292K for MDA

Price Chopper Supermarkets’ latest Shamrock fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has raised $292,937 in donations from shoppers, associates and supplier partners.

“We remain deeply committed to working with MDA to raise awareness of the progress being made to cure neuromuscular diseases and to raise funds that fuel that progress,” said Mona Golub, VP of public relations and consumer & marketing services at the Schenectady, N.Y.-based grocery chain. “The multifaceted partnership that we’ve built with MDA over the last 30 years integrates into many parts of our business and into the lives of our teammates.”

During the monthlong campaign, all 130 Price Chopper stores took part in a friendly competition to be named top fundraising store or the location with the best display of shamrock pinups. “It’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm and creativity that our teammates bring to this campaign, which provides a great opportunity to educate all engaged parties on the work that MDA continues to do in our local communities,” noted Golub.

This year, the Loudon Price Chopper in Latham, N.Y., raised the most money -- more than $11,500. Additionally, two individual Price Chopper teammates were recognized for their extraordinary fundraising efforts: Cory Mackos of the New Hartford, N.Y., Price Chopper is 2013 Shamrocker and Cassie Furciniti of the Bennington, Vt., Price Chopper is 2013 Shamrockette.

Family-operated Golub Corp. owns and operates Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Golub’s 22,000 teammates collectively own more than 50 percent of the company’s privately held stock, making it one of the nation’s largest privately held corporations that is predominantly employee-owned.
