Publix Expands in South Carolina

Publix Super Markets Inc. intends to enter the North Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island, S.C., market with two leased stores. One, a 49,000-square-foot store in North Myrtle Beach, is expected to open in late 2014, while a 45,000-square-foot location in Pawleys Island is slated to debut in early 2015.

Noting that the planned stores come on "the heels of our continued expansion in North Carolina,” Chuck Roskovich, Publix divisional VP, said that the Lakeland, Fla.-based grocer would provide “South Carolina residents and visitors alike with the high-quality service, products and active community involvement that Publix has become known for in our areas of operation and beyond.”

The grand opening dates for both locations will depend on several factors, among them permitting and completion of the stores’ construction.

Privately owned and operated by its 160,500 employees, Publix has 1,073 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
