Publix Grows BI Capacity with Data Warehouse Expansion

Publix Super Markets Inc., the country's largest employee-owned supermarket chain, has expanded its Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse to accommodate growth and more complex analytics. The upgrade moves the data warehouse functionality beyond traditional strategic analysis and into tactical operational intelligence for smarter, faster merchandising and marketing decisions and insight.

The expansion includes the latest Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse platform, database software and services. Publix expects this move to enhance its ability to leverage its data regardless of type -- to do more for business performance. The new platform enables quicker reaction and response to changing business conditions and consumer behavior.

"We chose Teradata because of its consistent performance and reliability,” said Laurie Douglas, Publix CIO. “This upgrade of our Teradata environment will allow us to expand our Enterprise Data Warehouse solution which provides valuable data analytics. Teradata's experience, focus on retail solutions and leading-edge technology provide us with the insights we need to extend our success in this competitive market."

Teradata's customers include hundreds of retail organizations worldwide, and 15 of the top 20 global retailers. Teradata will be exhibiting at the 2014 National Retail Federation convention in New York City, Jan. 12-15 in booth #2465.

Publix operates 1,077 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
