Raley's to Close Two Additional Stores

Following the news that Raley's Family of Fine Stores will close its location on Mack Road in Sacramento, Calif., the grocer today unveiled plans to close two additional stores in the Sacramento region.

A Raley's store in Newark is slated to close Aug. 1, and a Nob Hill Foods store in San Jose will close its doors on June 20, according to reports.

"At this time, we have announced three store closures. Each store is evaluated individually on performance. These individual decisions are sometimes necessary for the betterment of the whole. We continue to evaluate the marketplace to ensure the viability and lasting commitment that Raley's has had for the last 80 years," Chelsea Minor, Raley's director, public relations & public affairs, told Progressive Grocer. "We know a store closure is difficult for our communities and we hope to serve them at our other locations."

In an effort to refine its competitive edge, Raley's earlier this month hired Keith Knopf as COO, a new addition to the West Coast grocer's operations.

Following the closures, Raley's will operate 124 stores under four brands: Raley's, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source.
