Raley's Cuts 29 Jobs at Corporate

Raley's Family of Fine Stores is layoffing off 29 employees at the corporate level, and plans to close its store in Winnemucca, Nev., as part of an ongoing effort to streamline operations, according to a report in The Sacramento Bee.

Although Raley's did not respond to Progressive Grocer's request for confirmation of the report, the retailer's spokesperson, Chelsea Minor, told The Bee the 29 positions were eliminated from the grocer's West Sacramento headquarters office and distribution center in Natomas, and represents less than 2 percent of its non-store personnel. The associates were notified on Monday of the decision.

Raley's Shutters Winnemucca

Meanwhile, Raley's Winnemucca store – which is slated to close on Sept. 1 – has been leased to Ridley's Family Markets. Ridley's aims to incorporate the 50 Raley's associates into the store's operations, The Bee reported.

The Winnemucca location is the latest of four stores Raley's has closed or plans to close due to poor performance. The others include the store at 4551 Mack Road, also set to shut its doors in September, as well as its Nob Hill store in San Jose and its Raley's Supermarket in Newark, which have already closed.

Raley's Family of Fine Stores operates  stores in northern California and Nevada under four banners: Raley’s Supermarkets, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source.
