Roche Bros., Fruit Center Among Mass.’ ‘Top Places to Work’

The Boston Globe has listed Roche Bros. among its Top Places to Work for 2013. The independent ranks no. 18 for large companies of 1,000 or more employees. Also making the cut was two-store Fruit Center Marketplace, which ranks number 29 among midsized companies.

For the past six years, the newspaper's Top Places to Work has singled out the state’s best workplaces, based on surveys filled out by employees. The 2013 survey, conducted by Exton, Pa.-based WorkplaceDynamics, measured more than 76,000 individuals’ responses to statements on six key factors related to employee happiness: company direction, execution, employee connection, work load and responsibility, management, and pay and benefits. Least important among those surveyed were pay, benefits and work-life balance, with respondents placing much higher importance on employee appreciation, confidence and feeling that their work is meaningful.

WorkplaceDynamics additionally discovered that of all the cities surveyed, Boston-based employees were most enthusiastic about their companies, making Beantown the top Top Place to Work.

Wellesley, Mass.-based Roche Bros. employs more than 4,000 full- and part-time employees in 18 stores throughout greater Boston, Metro-West and southern Massachusetts. Fruit Center Marketplace operates locations in Milton and Hingham.
