Save-A-Lot Opens on WI Indian Reservation

Save-A-Lot has opened a new store on the Menominee Indian reservation in Keshena, Wis., joining 15 other Save-A-Lot locations in the state of Wisconsin.

Keshena’s Save-A-Lot is owned and operated by the Menominee Tribal Council of Wisconsin, which hosted a grand opening ceremony that featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a special store tour with local and regional dignitaries in attendance.

The Keshena store – the first Save-A-Lot licensed by an Indian tribe – underscores Save-A-Lot’s strategy to identify unique opportunities to help meet its growth plans.

In 2010, the grocer partnered with grocery retailer Rafael Ortega to form a new company, Adventure Supermarkets, which operates six stores in the Houston and south Texas region under a co-branded format, El Ahorro Save-A-Lot. Today, Save-A-Lot has about 1,300 stores in 39 states and the Caribbean, and has announced its intent to expand the number to 2,400 in the coming years.

“Save-A-Lot is committed to bringing fresh produce, dairy and USDA-inspected meat, as well as other essential grocery and household items to shoppers at an affordable price, typically up to 40 percent less than traditional grocers,” says Ron Munson, Save-A-Lot business unit director. “We look forward to working with the Menominee Tribal Council to serve customers at the new Keshena Save-A-Lot store.”

St. Louis-based Save-A-Lot, a Supervalu company, is one of the nation’s leading hard-discount, carefully selected assortment grocery chains, operating more than 1,300 stores in 39 states from Maine to California.
