Shaw’s, Star Market to Eliminate Rewards Card

In an effort to ensure that all customers receive equal savings, Shaw’s and Star Market will end its Rewards Card program, effective June 28, 2013, and lower prices on thousands of items across all 169 locations.

“All of our customers deserve to get the lowest price on their groceries without needing to carry a Rewards Card with them,” said Shane Sampson, president, Shaw’s and Star Market. “Our goal is to provide our customers with an experience that is simple, easy and focused directly on them.”

The list of price reductions will focus on items customers purchase most often, such as milk, eggs, bread and more. In addition to lower everyday prices, Shaw’s and Star Market will still offer weekly sales and promotions.

The grocer’s card-free savings initiative kicks off a marketing campaign called “You’re in for Something Fresh,” with new circulars and in-store signage designed to create excitement and illustrate the company’s commitment to quality products and great customer service.

"Our new marketing campaign highlights that there is a renewed commitment to quality and service at Shaw’s and Star Market,” added Sampson. “We’ve reinvigorated our brand and invested significantly in our business, and this is our invitation to everyone in the region to come and check out Shaw’s and Star Market. It’s a new beginning for us and we have a lot of exciting things to come as we look to regain our position as the best grocery experience in New England.”

Shaw’s and Star Market operates 169 locations across five New England states and employs approximately 18,000 associates.
