Smart & Final Corporate Workers Going Store Level

Smart & Final corporate employees, ranging from regional managers to c-level executives, will stock, bag and ring up groceries at stores on July 1 to mark the beginning of a major busy season. CEO Dave Hirz, too, will be involved, working on-site at the Burbank, Calif., Smart & Final Extra! store.

Dubbed “Engagement Days,” the season comprises some of Smart & Final’s busiest days of the year. During the same week in 2015, the retailer sold more than 200 percent more hot dog packages and pounds of ground beef, 500 percent more seedless watermelons, and 450 percent more pounds of potatoes than it does in a regular week, as customers rush to stock up for their Fourth of July festivities.

Based in Commerce, Calif., Smart & Final Stores Inc. operates 290 grocery and foodservice stores under the Smart & Final, Smart & Final Extra! and Cash & Carry Smart Foodservice banners in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada and Idaho, with an additional 15 stores in northwestern Mexico operated through a joint venture.
