Southeastern Grocers Closing Multiple Stores: Reports

Southeastern Grocers LLC has revealed plans to shutter various underperforming stores by June across its seven-state footprint, according to news reports from the affected areas.

Among the impending closures are three Winn-Dixie stores in Louisiana, two in Mississippi, and one each in Florida, Alabama and Georgia, The New Orleans Advocate and other publications reported.

There are also reports of several Bi-Lo stores slated to close in North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as a Georgia Harveys location scheduled to shut its doors permanently.

Although the Southeastern Grocers spokesman quoted in the Advocate article said that the company would try place as many affected associates as possible at nearby stores, there has been at least one report of layoffs at some stores, including a Neptune Beach Winn-Dixie in the greater Jacksonville, Fla., area.

At press time, Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers hadn’t responded to a query from Progressive Grocer regarding the closures.
