Spartan Expands ‘Yes Rewards’ Program
Spartan Stores is expanding its free Yes (You Earn and Save) Rewards program to its 11 D&W Fresh Markets and 36 Family Fare Supermarkets and anticipates the launch will extend cost savings to more than 1 million members.
Spartan launched the Yes Rewards program in its 32 Glen’s stores in 2009 and expanded to its 16 VG’s markets in 2011. Yes Rewards membership may be used at any D&W, Glen’s, Family Fare or VG’s statewide. Customers can sign up in any store, or online through www.myyesrewards.com. A number of special promotions and events will be held at each store to introduce the new program.
Alan Hartline, EVP of merchandising and marketing, said that while there is a full gamut of rewards programs worldwide, consumers are very selective on the types of programs they choose to join. “Extensive research, consumer focus groups and pilot launch with our own associates indicated in order for the program to be of value to our customers, it has to be simple, and easy to use,” he said. “Our research also has been instrumental in the development of free groceries, e-mail savings, fuel savings, Specialty Club savings like our Yes Baby Club, sweepstakes offerings and point redemption for gift cards.”
Further, Hartline said, “Our Yes Rewards members will continue to guide us on developing new features, clubs and promotions. We have been delighted with the Glen’s and VG’s launches; we have over 590,000 Yes Rewards customers saving money every time they shop.”
Customers can use their Yes Rewards card at the checkout to earn and exchange points. The card’s barcode is scanned to record point totals. Point totals can be checked on the customer’s receipt, in-store kiosk or online. Points are earned every week based on what a customer spends, up to a 150-point maximum per week. Customers can use their points for free groceries from a 20-item exchange list each week. Rewards members are eligible for free select diabetic, antibiotics and prenatal vitamins, $4/$10 prescriptions, and they can earn 25 points with each prescription filled.
Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spartan Stores Inc. distributes more than 40,000 corporate and national brand products to approximately 375 independent grocery stores in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, and to 97 corporate owned stores located in Michigan, including Family Fare Supermarkets, Glen’s Markets, D&W Fresh Markets and VG’s Food and Pharmacy.
