Stop & Shop Welcomes Back ‘A+ School Rewards’

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC has brought back its school fundraising program, “A+ School Rewards.” Schools helped by the program can earn cash for technology, scholarships, school programs, field trips, playgrounds and other educational needs.

During the 2012-2013 school year, St. Charles School on Staten Island, N.Y., the program’s top rewards leader, raised $22,822.10, which it used to buy new computers for its classrooms and improve its technology systems.

“Stop & Shop is committed to be a better neighbor in every community in which we operate,” said Judi Palmer, director of marketing and external communications at Stop & Shop New England, in Quincy, Mass. “The A+ School Rewards program is a great way for our customers and families to raise money to help support their local schools.”

To take part in the program, customers enroll annually and designate up to two schools by visiting their local Stop & Shop or online. A+ School Rewards are accrued with each purchase made using a Stop & Shop loyalty card beginning Oct. 4 and continuing through March 20, 2014.

“School budgets are tight, families' budgets are tight,” said Arlene Putterman, manager of public and community relations at Stop & Shop New York Metro Division, in Purchase, N.Y. “A+ School Rewards enables parents and customers to easily help their schools, simply by doing what they normally do: shop for groceries.”

Since 2009, the program has raised more than $7 million to help both public and private schools in the Northeast. The chain's sister banner, Giant-Landover, has run the program for a quarter-century.

An Ahold company, Stop & Shop employs about 60,000 associates and operates 400 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey.
