Strack & Van Til Expands Curbside Pickup Service

SVT LLC, which operates grocery stores under the Strack & Van Til, Ultra Foods and Town & Country Markets banners, is expanding online ordering for curbside pickup to the residents of northwest Indiana and the Chicago area.

In partnership with San Francisco-based Instacart, Strack & Van Til has been testing click-and-collect at its Schererville, Ind., store. The service has been so well received that SVT is now extending curbside pickup to eight more stores.

Convenient and Affordable

“Convenience is an important aspect of grocery shopping for many customers,” said Jeff Strack, Strack & Van Til CEO. “Being able to provide our customers the option to order groceries online and enjoy curbside pickup helps make a trip to the grocery store a little faster and easier. Best of all, the service is very affordable.”

Instacart requires a minimum order size of $10; the fee for curbside pickup is $1.99 for orders over $35 and $5.99 for smaller orders.

In addition to the Schererville pilot location, click-and-collect shopping will be available at Strack & Van Til stores in Chesterton, Crown Point and Cedar Lake, Ind.; Ultra Foods in Downers Grove, Wheaton and Joliet, Ill., and Highland, Ind.; and a Town & Country location in Valparaiso, Ind.

In the coming months, SVT plans to launch Instacart service at all of its stores.

“We want to make it easy for customers to discover the convenience of online oedering for scheduled pickup at their local [store],” said Dave Osborne, Instacart GM for Midwest markets. The first pickup is free, and Instacart is offering a $10 credit to users who refer a family member, friend or colleague to the curbside pickup service.

Founded in 1960, Highland, Ind.-based SVT currently operates 37 stores in Illinois and Indiana.
