Supermarket RDs Shine in Calif. Avocado Contest

A contingent of registered dietitians (RD) from six leading supermarket chains from around the country took top honors in California Avocado Commission (CAC) recent California Fresh Sandwiches recipe contest.

Winning recipes were submitted to the CAC sandwich showdown from the following registered dietitians (RD):

• Giant Eagle: Molly Ault
• HAC: Alyson Fendrick
• Hy-Vee: April Graff, Shannon Muhs, Stephanie Rupp and Brian Scheil
• Kroger: Allison Kuhn and Molly McBride
• Raley’s: JoAnne Mastracco
• Redner’s Markets: Meredith Mensigner

The winning recipes ranged from a California Avocado Breakfast Wrap to a vegetarian Portabella Mushroom with California Avocado Sandwich to a zesty Kickin’ Chicken and Avocado Sandwich.

In addition to increasing demand for California avocados through advertising, promotion, public relations and related efforts to benefit the state’s nearly 5,000 avocado growers, CAC serves as the official information source for California avocados and the California avocado industry.
